Research Programs

MEM·C now offers an Academic-Year Research Accelerator for Undergraduates program (AYRA REU). If selected you will be embedded in one of the MEM·C labs for the academic year. You will work with graduate students and faculty to develop a research project, gain training in relevant techniques and instrumentation, collect data, write-up your results and craft presentations. Students participate in seminars on undergraduate research and professional development, and are also included in MEMC IRG meetings and seminars.
  • Duration: Either two (2) or three (3) academic quarters, following the 2022-2023 UW Academic Calendar.
  • Dates: We are accepting AYRA applications in two (2) rounds. The first round of applications are due September 26, 2022. The second round of applications are due December 1, 2022.
  • Stipend: $2100/quarter
If selected you will be embedded in one of the MEM·C labs for 9 weeks. You will work with a graduate student and faculty to develop a research project, gain training in relevant techniques and instrumentation, collect data and finally produce a poster and research abstract. Students participate in a weekly seminar on undergraduate research covering research ethics, writing a research abstract, making a scientific poster. Students participate in a weekly Materials Science special interest group in which they read scientific journals or tour other labs. MEM·C Flyer 2021

Open to high school or middle school science teachers. Teachers learn about state-of-the-art research in one of our labs and then translate the experience into lessons or curriculum they can use in their classrooms. More info.

A summer program for underrepresented and underserved UW students during their transfer summer. Students participate in lab research combined with a rigorous math and chemistry enhancement designed to enhance success and retention. Includes stipend and housing. Apply through the UW ALVA office.
