MEM·C Hosts Faculty Panel with Summer REUs
Last Monday, August 1, MEMC hosted a panel with faculty and REU students. All of the participating faculty are hosting REU students in their labs this summer and the list included: Daniel Gamelin, Arka Majumdar, Jiun-Haw Chu, Matthew Yankowitz, Xiaodong Xu, Brandi Cossairt, and Mo Li. MEMC Education Director, Danica Hendrickson, hosted the panel along with Education and Training Fellows Samantha Tetef and Sarah Zeitler. The round of formal questions included topics such as: “describe your STEM journey to your current research and we’d love to hear about your undergraduate experience in this journey” and “what scientific problems, scientific advances, or social movements in materials science research or STEM make you excited to be in this field?”. Afterwards, everyone headed up to the terrace of the new Hans Rosling Center for Population Health for more informal questions like “what is the most expensive thing you’ve broken in the lab”. Many thanks to all of our faculty and students for participating!
